Today women all over the world come together to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD). This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias. Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world where differences are celebrated instead of seen as obstacles? In line with the theme, the Women In Cybersecurity Association (WICCA) reflects on how we, as a community, are breaking the bias and how you too can get involved.
What WICCA is doing to #BreakTheBias
Women In Cybersecurity Community Association’s vision is to share information security (infosec) knowledge with everyone. We do so in a couple of ways:
1/ Upskilling Women
We offer a safe space for infosec professionals to come together and learn from each other. Whereas we are a women-focused organization, we are not exclusive and welcome those that share our vision and values. We strive to close the knowledge gap on technical subjects and therefore hold monthly meetups of varying technical complexity.
2/ Easier Access to Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
We make it easier for our members to have access to Subject Matter Experts that they may not have easily reached out to or known of. The guests we invite are diverse, and so are the organizations that open their doors to WICCA.
3/ Networking
Through the monthly meetups we organize, WICCA provides networking and mentorship opportunities to its members. Members can also stay in touch with each other via different social media platforms managed by WICCA.
How you too can help WICCA #BreakTheBias
WICCA is a volunteer driven community. We strive to open our doors for our members and therefore, everything we do is free. As such, there are a couple of ways that you too can help us break the bias.
1/ Host WICCA in your organization
Things are opening up again. That means that we will soon be hybrid and will be looking for potential places to host our meetups. We love to visit organizations and host our meetups there. Are you interested? Send us an email: events@womenofwicca.nl
2/ Present as an SME
We are always on the lookout for new and interesting topics for our meetups. If you have an interesting topic and are willing to donate your time to upskilling the women of WICCA, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to us via any of the means mentioned in this page.
3/ Donate to or Sponsor WICCA
Donations help us cater the running costs of WICCA. These include web conferencing, domain hosting, and others. The more we can spend, the more we can do for our members. There are a couple of ways you can support us. Please visit the page here for more details.
Let’s continue the dialogue
This is in no way an exhaustive list. Our intention here is to promote dialogue. Let’s break the bias, not just today, but in days that follow too. Happy Women’s Day from WICCA ❤
